On our trip to Florence, we took the Trenitalia speed train from Rome into the Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station. It costs around 40 euro each way, but the 1.5 hour transit is worth the fare. Seats are comfortable and the view is beautiful.
The countryside of Italy reminded me a lot of Illinois, the fields and trees, farms and livestock. On our way back, I enjoyed spotting a deer and a fox. Living in Malta, it's been a long time since I've seen much life in nature, larger than a bug anyway.
Here are some misc shots from the train rides.
