Each October, the village of Birgu (medieval and vital in the Great Siege of 1565) spends a weekend in the darkness, all lights turned off and the entire area lit by candlelight only. When we arrived last fall to Malta, we were a week behind the festival, which I had read about prior to our arrival. I was really sad to miss the event I'd looked forward to seeing.
This year, Chris offered to stay home with the girls, as an evening walking around with a camera and crowds of people was not something any of the three of them would enjoy. It took me over an hour just to find a place to park, but the sights before my eyes were well worth the trouble.
